The Bible Through a Human Lens: History, Philosophy, and Divine Connection

Is the Bible more than the Word of God? Is it also a historical and philosophical account of humanity’s interaction with God? Perhaps it is both — a profound attempt by humans to interpret a multidimensional Creator and a narrative filled with emotion, sin, and the pursuit of truth.

The Bible as History and Philosophy

The Bible offers a historical record — recounting the literal creation of humanity and chronicling a specific group’s journey with God. Regardless of its historical specifics, its value remains undeniable as a depiction of humanity’s interpretation of the divine and their efforts to understand a being beyond comprehension.

Have you ever considered the Bible as both a historical document and a philosophical exploration of God?
How might its stories still hold relevance for you today?

Does the Human Lens Diminish the Bible?

Does the human element take away from the Bible’s significance? Quite the opposite. It enriches it, adding complexity and depth.

The Bible is often viewed solely as the Word of God, but it’s also filtered through the human lens — a lens shaped by emotion, sin, and the search for meaning. Through this lens, we witness humanity grappling with timeless questions:

What is good or evil?

What does it mean to love or fear?

How can we align with God?

Genesis captures this tension when Adam and Eve eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. We, as modern readers, often judge this act with hindsight, believing ourselves wiser because we see the entire narrative. We see the whole picture, like God does. God allowed us to see it all as one story, he did not see the lows as lows and the highs as highs but the choice of the forbidden fruit to the Jesus then to everyone. Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

What would it be like to read the Bible without hindsight, experiencing the events as they unfold?
Can we recognize ourselves in the human struggles recorded in scripture?

The Role of the Holy Spirit

This is where the Holy Spirit comes in. Everyone carries the Holy Spirit within them — a divine essence that connects us to God. Through it, we live out unique truths, which are reflections of God’s truth manifested in the world.

Everyone is living their truth, which is ultimately God’s truth through the Holy Spirit. What each person does becomes part of the unfolding of divine truth in the 3D world. However, as humans, our understanding of God is limited by our own interpretations and perceptions.

We are destined for an eternal search for God, as our minds can only fathom fragments of divine truth through the filters of our human experience. This filter drapes in front of us until the day we pass from this life. In that moment, freed from the constraints of the 3D world, the Holy Spirit carries our experiences and brings us fully into God’s presence.

Even though our human interpretations are imperfect, the Holy Spirit bridges the gap between the infinite and the finite.

The Bible as an Eternal Search for God

The Bible is more than just a collection of laws and prophecies. It’s a profound reflection of the human experience with God — an ongoing story of choices, redemption, and divine connection. And perhaps that eternal search, with all its questions and imperfections, is precisely where we encounter God.
